HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Maui County announced Friday that Lahainaluna Road will officially reopen for unrestricted public access on Friday, marking a significant milestone in the recovery process.
Officials said crews successfully completed all debris removal activities in the area surrounding Lahainaluna Road and the Pioneer Mill smokestack.
Officials added that the smokestack has been deemed structurally safe following rigorous engineering testing.
In early October, crews established a 150-foot fall zone in an abundance of caution while structural evaluations were happening. As a result, barricades were put up and a security checkpoint was relocated.
These barricades and security checkpoint will be removed by Friday morning.
County officials are reminding all drivers and pedestrians to proceed with caution.
